This is a report I wrote on Scientology. What do you guys think? Are the facts correct? Does it do what it was intended to do (reveal the monstrosity that is CoS and encourage you to help Anonymous fight back against CoS)? Any comments are appreciated.
The Truth About Scientology
Criminal Cult
The Fair Game Policy
Scientology had a "Fair Game" policy (see below, titled "Penalties for Lower Conditions"). While this policy was officially cancelled in July of 1968, there have been rumours of its implementation still today (only rumours).
The policy of how to handle a "Suppressive Person" (SP) was replaced with this new policy; "Suppressive Person order. May not be communicated with by anyone except an Ethics Officer, Master at Arms, a Hearing Officer or a Board or Committee. May be restrained or imprisoned. May not be protected by any rules or laws of the group he sought to injure as he sought to destroy or bar fair practices for others. May not be trained or processed or admitted to any org."
One thing you may want to note about the cancellation of the "Fair Game" policy; "The practice of declaring people FAIR GAME will cease. FAIR GAME may not appear on any Ethics Order. It causes bad public relations. This P/L does not cancel any policy on the treatment or handling of an SP." It was only cancelled because of its bad PR. It only cancelled the use of the words "Fair Game." It still allows the exact same treatment of an SP. An Ethics Order dating from March 6,
1968, (before the cancellation, I know) issued by L. Ron Hubbard lists twelve scientologists accused of distributing altered versions of upper level technology. Hubbard wrote "They are fair game. No amnesty may ever cover them... Any Sea Org member contacting them is to use Auditing Process R2-45." What is "Auditing Process R2-45," you may ask. Auditing Process R2-45 involves taking a Colt Model 1911 .45 handgun and, essentially, murdering (actually just shooting) the audited. The theory behind Auditing Process R2-45 is that the person's "thetan" (the soul of a person murdered 75 million years ago by Xenu, evil alien overlord. Thetans are, supposedly, the cause of sickness and sadness) becomes separated from the body. The person is then considered "clear" and able to continue being a member of the church. CoS maintains an aggressive policy towards those it perceives as an "enemy" or "suppressive person." As late as 1985, CoS tried to argue, in court, that retributive action taken against "enemies" and "Suppressive People" was a "core practice" of Scientology, and should therefore be covered under the amendment. Thank God they failed, otherwise I would be (likely) killed simply for writing this paper. The rumours of "Fair Game" policies still being used (the ones I mentioned earlier) stem from ex-Scientologists. These ex-Scientologists had held senior positions in CoS and claimed seeing "Fair Game" actions being taken against enemies of CoS. Vicki Aznaran, who had been Chairman of the Board of the Religious Technology Centre, claimed in 1994 that, "Because of my position and the reports which regularly crossed my desk, I know that during my entire presidency of RTC 'fair game' actions against enemies were daily routine. Apart from the legal tactics described below, the 'fair game' activities included break-ins, libel, upsetting the companies of the enemy, espionage, harassment, misuse of confidential communications in the folders of community members and so forth." There are many court cases involving the "Fair Game" policy. "Fair Game" has been in use up until at least 1980, and there are many allegations that it is still used today. In the recent rallies by Anonymous, CoS members have shouted at, kicked, hit, and knocked objects out of the hands of Anonymous members. These actions were done in an attempt to elicit a violent response from Anonymous members, more than likely in order to sue Anonymous for attacking them. Anonymous members have been followed back to their homes. At one rally in LA, a man brought a handgun to the rally. He claimed not to have been hired by CoS, but he was seen and taped walking in and out of CoS's centre and walking on "their" sidewalk.
"PENALTIES FOR LOWER CONDITIONS
(Applies both Orgs and Sea Org)
LIABILITY-Suspension of pay and a dirty grey rag on left arm and day and night confinement to org premises.
TREASON- Suspension of pay and deprivation of all uniforms and insignia, a black mark on left cheek and confinement on org premises or dismissal from post and debarment from premises.
DOUBT- Debarment from premises. Not to be employed. Payment of fine amounting to any sum may have cost org. Not to be trained or processed. Not to be communicated or argue with.
ENEMY- SP Order. Fair game. May be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed."
"Operation Snow White" and "Operation Freakout"
Scientology has used many means, both legal and illegal, in an attempt to gain a tax exempt status and in order to silence its critics (next section). It has also attempted to destroy all unfavourable records about CoS and L. Ron Hubbard (founder).
"Operation Snow White" refers to a project in the 1970's to get rid of any and all unfavourable records of CoS and L. Ron Hubbard. This included a series of 136 infiltrations of embassies, consulates, and private organizations against CoS, spanning over 30 countries. This operation also included the wiretapping of multiple government offices, including the International Revenue Service. Snow White was carried out by CoS members and was orchestrated by Hubbard himself. It was a failure of epic proportions, leading to the arrests of multiple high-ranking CoS members.
"Operation Freakout" refers to a campaign by CoS to get freelance journalist Paulette Cooper arrested or locked in a mental institution. Freakout was initiated because of a book written by Cooper, titled The Scandal of Scientology. CoS sued her for $300,000 for "untrue, libellous and defamatory statements about the Church." Afterward, Cooper counter-sued for $15.4 million. CoS stepped up the harassment by painting her name and phone number on walls (so she would get obscene phone calls), sending her anonymous bomb threats, and sending letters to her neighbours claiming that she had venereal diseases. A woman ostensibly collecting money for United Farm Workers stole some paper from Cooper's apartment. A few days later, CoS received "bomb threats." Having been written on paper stolen from Cooper's apartment, the threats had Cooper's fingerprints on them. She was taken to court in front of a Federal Grand Jury. CoS sued Cooper again in the UK, the US, and Australia. According to one source, CoS imported her books solely for the purpose of suing her in places where libel laws were stricter. More attacks on Cooper were soon to come. A Scientologist was to impersonate Cooper (who was Jewish) and make telephone threats to an Arab consulate in New York. A threatening letter, made to look like it was from Cooper, was to be sent to another Arab consulate. A Scientologist volunteer was to impersonate Cooper and threaten the President and the Secretary of State while another Scientologist reported it to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. More plans were subsequently added; 4) More information about Cooper was to be gathered so that the success of the other plans would be ensured, 5) A Scientologist was to phone an Arab consulate and claim Cooper had been talking about bombing it, and 6) A piece of paper with Cooper's fingerprints on it was to be used to type a threatening letter to the Secretary of State. "Operation Freakout" was never put into effect. CoS was caught attempting to break into a courthouse as part of "Operation Snow White." CoS was prosecuted for its criminal activities and its operations "Freakout" and "Snow White" were released to the public.
Deaths Related to Scientology
Scientology has been directly related to the deaths and suicides of many Scientologists. Many of the deaths occurred while the victims were either under the care of CoS or its front groups, working for CoS or its front groups, or became suicidal because CoS would not let them leave, or harassed them.
--Lisa McPherson, aged 36, was involved in a minor car accident. After the accident, she began acting strangely, as if mentally unstable. She was placed in a hospital. Against medical advice, the Church of Scientology (CoS) removed her from the hospital and placed her in the Fort Harrison Hotel for "rest and relaxation." After 17 days, she was taken to a hospital and pronounced DOA. Malnutrition and dehydration are the official cause of death. In the subsequent investigation it was found that she had been receiving unlicensed medical treatment by CoS.
--Heribert Pfaff, aged 31, died from an epileptic seizure. He had been prescribed medicine to help with his regular seizures, but, following the CoS's advice, he began taking a regimen of vitamins and minerals. (In my opinion: he was taken off of his medication because CoS opposes Psychiatry and Psychology.)
--Josephus Havenith, aged 45, was found dead in a bathtub filled with water so hot that his skin had been burned off. Horrible, yeah? His head was the only part of his body found above water. The official cause of death was "probable drowning." What? His head was above water, his skin was burned off due to the temperature of the water, and he drowned? Figure that one out.
--An unidentified body was found in the boiler-room of the Hotel. Cause of death was determined to be carbon monoxide poisoning. Ex-scientologists claim that the boiler-room was used for CoS's Rehabilitation Project Force.
--Noah Antrim Lottick, aged 24, was found dead after he had jumped to his death from atop a building. He was clutching $174 (or thereabouts), the only money he had yet to give to the CoS.
--A suicide not by James Hester reads as follows: "I have taken what 1 consider to be the most expedient way out of my present predicament. I harbor no resentment against anyone, except the Church of Scientology. They have a great deal to do with my demise. To play with people's defense mechanisms in the manner that they do is a criminal thing at best. l hope they can be outlawed."
--Stacy Grove Meyer, aged 20, was found dead at Golden Era Productions in San Jacinto, California. The cause of death was electrocution due to a 7200 volt wire that was connecting two transformers in a 10'x10'x8' vault. It appeared as if Stacey had fallen from a ladder and, in an attempt to stop her fall, she had grabbed onto the ladder. CoS was found guilty of several safety violations.
--Susan Meister, aged 23, was found dead on a bunk aboard the Apollo (a ship belonging to CoS) on June 25, 1971, with a single bullet in the middle of her forehead. She was found sitting up, arms crossed across her chest, with a long-barrelled revolver across her chest and blood dribbling out of the corners of her mouth. There was no gun powder residue on her forehead. If she had killed herself at point-blank range, there would have been residue on her head. She had previously requested to go home, but her quest was denied.
--Roberto Deplano, aged 20, killed himself by jumping off of the 8th floor of a building.
--Giuseppe Tomba, aged 26, a guest of the Narconon centre, died at a hospital in Lecca.
--Paride Ella, aged 22, killed himself after five agonizing days of vomiting and diarrhoea, symptoms similar to the ones Giuseppe suffered. Paride was also a patient of Narconon.
--Gabriella Bramucci, aged 55, died of cancer. Following CoS's recommendations, she did not follow treatment. Instead, because CoS believes that every disease is psychosomatic (meaning it is entirely or greatly influenced by one's emotions), she was treated with "touch assists" (which involves two patients massaging each other while they are alone in a room).
--Oscar A. was physically unstable and turned to CoS for help. After he realized that the "therapy" was "totally useless," he attempted to leave CoS. He became the victim of telephone persecution (in order to change his mind), psychological threats, etc. He soon hung himself.
--Mario M. had a similar story. After realizing the futility of "therapy," he asked for a refund. He had put all of his savings, about 3000 Euros in 1985, into the CoS. He became the victim to delaying and stressful tactics as well as psychological threats. He attempted suicide by gas, but failed. He later hung himself.
--Massimo B. was mentally ill, having chronic psychotic syndrome of the schizophrenic type, looked to CoS for help. Although he had already been hospitalized, CoS staffers told him that through a "therapy" called "purification," he would improve 100%. His condition worsened severely and he ran away on the first day. He was convinced to return, but ran away shortly after rejoining. After he ran away for the second time, he finally attempted to end his own life by slitting his wrists. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), he survived.

A frightening list, to be sure. Unfortunately, this is only the beginning. There are too many to list here. Check out

Disturbing quotes from L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of CoS, ensue.
Somebody some day will say 'this is illegal'. By then be sure the [Scientology] orgs say what is legal or not.
Do not engage in any rite, ceremony, practice, exercise, meditation, diet, food therapy or any similar occult, mystical, religious, naturopathic, homeopathic, chiropractic treatment or any other healing or mental therapy while on course without the express permission of the D of T, Case Supervisor and Ethics Officer.
In short, a staff member can get away with murder so long as his statistic is up and can't sneeze without a chop if it's down.
You're here so you're a Scientologist. Now we're going to make you an expert auditor no matter what happens. We'd rather have you dead than incapable.
SEX, 1 . the body's single effort to make something out of nothing is resident in sex, and in this culture at our time sex is a degraded and nasty thing which must be hidden at best and babies are something not to have but to be prevented. -- Dianetics and Scientology Technical Dictionary, by L. Ron Hubbard
Show me any person who is critical of us and I'll show you crimes and intended crimes that would stand a magistrate's hair on end.
MAKE MONEY. MAKE MORE MONEY. MAKE OTHER PEOPLE PRODUCE SO AS TO MAKE MORE MONEY.
Scientology is used to increase spiritual freedom, intelligence, ability and to produce immortality. -- Dianetics and Scientology Technical Dictionary, by L. Ron Hubbard, page 370.
If attacked on some vulnerable point by anyone or anything or any organization, always find or manufacture enough threat against them to cause them to sue for peace.
The purpose of the suit is to harass and discourage rather than to win. The law can be used very easily to harass, and enough harassment on somebody who is simply on the thin edge anyway, well knowing that he is not authorized, will generally be sufficient to cause his professional decease. If possible, of course, ruin him utterly.
People attack Scientology, I never forget it, always even the score. People attack auditors, or staff, or organisations, or me. I never forget until the slate is clear.
Our organizations are friendly. They are only here to help you.
A truly Suppressive Person or group has no rights of any kind and actions taken against them are not punishable.
The names and connections, at this time, of the bitterly opposing enemy are: 1. Psychiatry and psychology (not medicine). 2. The heads of news media who are also directors of psychiatric front groups. 3. A few key political figures in the fields of "mental health" and education. 4. A decline of monetary stability caused by the current planning of bankers who are also directors of psychiatric front organizations [that] would make us unable to function.
They smell of all the baths they didn't take. The trouble with China is, there are too many chinks here.
In any event, any person from 2.0 down on the Tone Scale should not have, in any thinking society, any civil rights of any kind, because by abusing those rights he brings into being arduous and strenuous laws which are oppressive to those who need no such restraints. -- The Science of Survival by L. Ron Hubbard, page 145. (Tone Scale is Scientology's measure of mental and spiritual health.)
There are only two answers for the handling of people from 2.0 down on the Tone Scale, neither one of which has anything to do with reasoning with them or listening to their justification of their acts. The first is to raise them on the Tone Scale by un-enturbulating some of their theta by any one of the three valid processes. The other is to dispose of them quietly and without sorrow. -- The Science of Survival, by L. Ron Hubbard, page 170.
The sudden and abrupt deletion of all individuals occupying the lower bands of the Tone Scale from the social order would result in an almost instant rise in the cultural tone and would interrupt the dwindling spiral into which any society may have entered. -- The Science of Survival, by L. Ron Hubbard, page 170.
THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN CONTROL PEOPLE IS TO LIE TO THEM. You can write that down in your book in great big letters. The only way you can control anybody is to lie to them.
We're playing for blood, the stake is EARTH.
This is the correct procedure: Spot who is attacking us. Start investigating them promptly for felonies or worse using our own professionals, not outside agencies. Double curve our reply by saying we welcome an investigation of them. Start feeding lurid, blood sex crime actual evidence on the attackers to the press. Don't ever tamely submit to an investigation of us. Make it rough, rough on attackers all the way.
Scientology...is not a religion. -- Creation of Human Ability, by L. Ron Hubbard, page 251.
Now, get this as a technical fact, not a hopeful idea. Every time we have investigated the background of a critic of Scientology, we have found crimes for which that person or group could be imprisoned under existing law. We do not find critics of Scientology who do not have criminal pasts. (In other words; If they have not committed a crime, frame them for one. This point was illustrated well by the fake bomb threats during "Operation Freakout".)
Leukemia is evidently psychosomatic in origin and at least eight cases of leukemia had been treated successfully by Dianetics after medicine had traditionally given up. The source of leukemia has been reported to be an engram containing the phrase 'It turns my blood to water'.
