Lisa McPherson October 2, 1959 - December 5, 1995
In memory of Lisa McPherson, a candle light vigil will be held Friday night (December 5), from 7pm to 9pm, at HGB - 6331 Hollywood Blvd. Tea light candles will be provided. Appropriate signage welcomed. Please RSVP by email to raids@socalanon.com with how many people you will be coming with so that we can try to have enough lights for everyone.

Join us in honoring the memory of Lisa McPherson, who died under the "care" of the Flag Service Office division of Scientology at the Fort Harrison Hotel from a pulmonary embolism caused by severe dehydration. Autopsy reports indicate she had been without fluids for five to ten days and her body showed bruises and bug bites.


Lisa's story
A Scientologist since the age of 18, Lisa worked for AMC Publishing, a company owned by a Scientologist and staffed by Scientologists. After her death, family and friends said she had expressed a desire to leave the church, but instead she took courses in Clearwater Florida, where on November 18, 1995 after a minor car accident she suffered what appeared to be a psychotic break.

Paramedics initially left her alone because she was ambulatory, but after she began to remove her clothes, they decided to take her to the closest hospital. At one point she remarked that she had taken off her clothes in hopes of obtaining counseling. Following intervention by fellow Scientologists, McPherson refused psychiatric observation or admission at the hospital and checked herself out, against medical advice, after a short evaluation. The Scientologists took her to Fort Harrison Hotel.

Seventeen days later, she was dead on arrival at another local hospital, and not the nearest one. Comatose, her breathing labored, she was driven past a total of four hospitals to be checked into one with a Scientology-friendly doctor, the same one who had been prescribing Valium and chloral hydrate for her, without her knowledge or consent and without examining her during those two and half weeks. Oddly Scientology preaches against psychiatric drugs, yet was willing to use them on this helpless woman...

Scientology which proudly boasts of its ethics, of being the way to happiness, of only wanting to help people, of having the "technology" to cure all matters of illness-mental and physical-made a confidential settlement in the wrongful death civil suit brought by Lisa McPherson's family. The "Church" of Scientology has yet to pay the family, though they now make members sign a waiver specifically against suing over the Introspection Rundown.

Over the past decade, Lisa McPherson's death spurred protests at Scientology headquarters in Clearwater, Florida and Los Angeles, California, as a small group of critics and ex-members worked to bring awareness to the Scientology's many abuses. Her death, though tragic, has not been in vain. February 10, 2008, Lisa McPherson's birthday, launched Chanology, the Anonymous global movement to expose and dismantle Scientology, which has over the past ten months revealed many of the organization's corrupt practices, provided a haven and a voice for escapees from the cult, and made the world aware that this celebrity studded group is actually a dangerous and totalitarian cult. Please join us in remembering this vital intelligent woman whose death was caused by the very people to whom she gave her trust and literally her life.

Be polite and respectively on Friday night! The handlers will be their usual self, DO NOT FOLLOW INTO THEIR TRAP ON FRIDAY!

Let them bark and scream and whatever. Just imagine the visual of all of us peaceful with our candles, and them barking and shouting about how much we are criminals.

I think for this night, it would be great to not acknowledge the handlers presence what so ever. Itll make us look awesome and make them look even worse, disturbing a peaceful candlelight vigil.

Let's put a differences a side and agree that we all don't talk/engage with the handlers.

I am confident that the others in Anonymous will go along with this idea, but I'm not sure about a few of you (mainly just Mona and AO.)

For the chance of this being utterly epic, go along with the non-confrontational idea for ONE protest!

MOD EDIT: DO NOT BRING MATCHES OR LIGHTERS! THE CANDLES THAT WILL BE PROVIDED ARE LEDs!

I agree with the Gandhi Tech, non-argumentative approach. However, I reserve the right to tell my handlers to back off & stop stalking me, if that occurs, as I will be filming the vigil and to honor those that have died.

Hopefully, you have cleared the vigil with the city, since fire will be involved and we don't need the cult making a big stink about it.

Please Scarff, I understand in some situations the handlers might do something nuts, but if they are their usual selves just screaming and barking at us and what not, PLEASE just ignore them during the vigil. If they follow you than by all means, do what you do. But for this night, the goal is to completely and utterly ignore them!

Thank you both, gentlemen. That was a lovely, civil exchange between two adults. I hate to sound old and dusty, but that was just delightful.

I'm very excited about the prospect of tomorrow night. I think it will be a great success, and I hope that everyone can bring someone, and we can have a bunch of people...
