Ausfag comming through

Hey,
Redshirt here, veteran raidfag from glorious Australian city state of Brisbekistan (though after 3000mm of rain in 4 weeks it's moar liek the Lost City of Brislantis).
Anyways, long story short I'm comming to America in January, touring the US&A until March, whereupon I travel to England to meet with family.
Where this involves Anonymous is that even though I'll be away from Brisbekistan I still intend to go to monthly protests in whichever town I'm closest to over the course of my trip. So just giving you all a heads up that some of you may see a rouge Ausfag at your protests in a few months.
Where this involves SoCalAnon is that LA is where the actions is, and a raid of one of their big orgs is on my to do list. Big Blue, Gold, LRH Way, anywhere and/or everywhere in the week or two I shall be there. I also (hopefully) will purchase a motorbike to get my considerable posterior from one side of your country to the other. Thus, I humbly beseech thee to answer my questions three:

1) Where are good, cheap backpackers hostels in your area?
2) Any of you guys have or know someone who has a motorcycle for sale for less than $1500? Must be roadworthy, over 500cc (preferably, but not less than 250cc), for sale in the general SoCal area, and not too damaged (meaning I don't mind if a bit of faring is missing or the paint is scratched, so long as it will run). I will pay cash or PayPal.
3) Anyone know what I need to do to register a motorbike in CA if I'm not a citizen? I checked out the DMV website and emailed them, and I think I can do it, but if one of you could give me a definite answer it will help. If I can't do this then question 2 is kinda invalidated.

Thanks guys,
See you in January.

We'll welcome you gladly to our shenanigans! Smiley
Sidenote: The Lost City of Brtilantis line made me LOL hard.

and yes, check out craigslist.com for a bike...there's always a lot of good stuff thrown up there.

And hostels, I know there's 3 in the immediate Hollywood area...there's one on Highland, a few blocks north of Hollywood Blvd, there's one on Hollywood Blvd, across from Hollywood & Highland Mall and there's another one on one of the sidestreets a few blocks east of that area, but I don't remember where and I don't know how much any of them run, but they're worth looking into for the area.

And yeah, goooood luck with the DMV. HAH!

Ath: I'm speechless.

Re: Ausfag comming through

Ditto on the welcomings and such.  Noir already gave you the location of the hostel that I know about. I had a friend stay there once - clean enough, I suppose, but  I don't have a lot of experience in that field, tbh.

As for the DMV - you can try calling and waiting on hold (Skype would be best for that!), or you can go stand in line when you get here and ask them your question. You might want to buy the bike/scooter/whatever first, so you don't have to go through that shite twice. However, if you've got nothing else to do, it might be worth it just spending the day there.

Re: Ausfag comming through

Thanks guys.
Craigslist was one of my back ups, I just thought I'd check here first and see if I could take a bike of any of your hands. Found a nice one though, in Venice, which I have no idea where is. Hostel cleanliness is not an issue with me, I'm a wanderer by nature and I've slept in some real strange and uncomfortable places before. A matress is all I need, and I will take carpeted floor if one is not available.

Venice is kinda far from all the places you want to raid, and what they say about Los Angeles traffic is not a joke, nor an exaggeration. There's generally traffic all day long, it's just worse during rush hours - which run from about 7 to 930, and 3 to 730...I can't prepare you enough. It's insane. You might be better off finding a hostel in Hollywood, for the sake of  convenience. However, Venice iiiisss right by the ocean - but you're from Australia, and don't most of you fuckers live near the coast anyhow?

TL;DR Venice is far, but beachy. Hollywood might be better.

Venice is where a bike I want to buy is, not where I'm staying if thats what you thought. I booked all my flights today (I get to LA on the 20th of Jan) as well as 3 days accomodation in LA. For the sake of security (*tinfoil, DEPLOY!*) I won't say what hostel but it's in the general area of LAX. So long as there's buses, taxis, trains and trams I can find my way around. And yeah, LA traffic is not something I'm looking forward to. Maybe I should be on the road by midnight when I leave...

And to answer your question 90% of Australia's population lives within 100km of the east coast, 88% of that living in the 3 eastern capitals of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. While I do fit into that demographic, I don't live anywhere near the sea. Got plenty of bush out here though, but you can't walk through it because the army shot the shit outta it from 1914 til 1978 and there's UXOs everywhere.
There's also a cursed mountain...

Cursed mountain eh? We'll have to hear that story when you arrive. There's not great transportation from LAX - I don't think the train runs out there, so you might want to take that into consideration..until you have the bike, at least. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=LAX&daddr=4810+W+Sunset+Blvd,+Los+Angeles,+CA+90027&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&sll=44.351233,-115.644531&sspn=21.327547,39.550781&ie=UTF8&z=12 That's directions from LAX to Big Blue (which is ON LRH Way, btw...you mentioned them as two separate places in your OP).  You can see how far it is. Venice is just northwest of LAX, along the shore - you can see it on that map, too.  I might suggest trying to find another hostel or you'll spend all of your time in LA driving to and from places!  As for departure time, when we're going on a road trip, we usually leave around 10 pm, or later...

Advice taken and noted. Unfortunately my accomodation was thrown in with the 3 flights and insurance I paid for, and I'd hate to waste a free stay. And I'll only be in LA for 3 nights anyways, 20th-22nd and then I move off on the 23rd. I think the 21st is a Thursday... statraid?

Re: Ausfag comming through

21st is a Wednesday.

Well the 22nd then.

Also, has a look about Google StreetView... I'm not the type of person who get intimidated easily, but looking at LRH way and the size of the buildings, the absolute saturation of Scilon propaganda, masses of cameras, guards, and one yellow van. That truly is the Lion's Den.
At least when you comapre it to what Brisbekistan has:

And the right wing of that building is unoccupied and for rent BTW.

Re: Ausfag comming through

Just a thought; I've been around the world a bit (well, to Japan and all around Aus) and from my experience it is moslty customary (and when not, polite) for the guest to bring some gifts to their hosts. So is there any sorta pressies you SoCals might want from downunder?

BTW, found one town I'm definitely going to:
